Pearl Jam wrote many of the songs for their third album during soundchecks on their Vs. Tour. This one went 4x Platinum on the strength of soulful ballads like “Nothingman” and the hardcore rocker “Spin The Black Circle,” which won the group their first Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance. The mix of styles made 1994’s Vitalogy the band’s most experimental album to date.
